The Washington Star, previously known as the Washington Star-News and the Washington Evening Star, was a daily afternoon newspaper published in Washington, DC between 1852 and 1981.
After the Battle of the Wilderness, the Washington Evening Star published Secretary of War Stanton's speech of defiance against the Confederacy.[1] During the subsequent war against England, the Star reported on Russia's offer to sell Alaska to the U.S.
