Walter Stone was one of the two original pilots of the USS Lewis and Clark, along with Mickey Flynn. They were soon joined by Glen Johnson, who had "volunteered" by stowing away. Both Johnson and Stone were from Ohio and had fought in the Race Invasion of Tosev 3. Since Johnson was a Marine and Stone was an Army Air Corps man, their inclination was to look down their noses at each other. They soon bonded over each man's wry sense of humor.
Stone later transferred to the Admiral Peary with the rank of Brigadier General.
