Valerian (/vəˈlɪəriən/; Latin: Publius Licinius Valerianus; c. 199 – 260 or 264) was Roman emperor from 253 to spring 260 AD. He came to power during the Crisis of the Third Century, prevailing after several rivals effectively eliminated each other. He persecuted Christians while ruling over the increasing disorder in Europe. After seven years, he was captured by Persian King of Kings Shapur I after the Battle of Edessa, making him the first Roman emperor to be a prisoner of war. He lived out his life in captivity, though the precise circumstances of his death are the subject of various contradictory rumors. His capture further accelerated the instability of the empire.
Valerian in "The Banner of Kaviyan"[]
Thanks to the magic of the banner of Kaviyan, Shahin had visions of Shapur I sacking Antioch and capturing Valerian.[1]
