USS Sandwich Islands

The USS Sandwich Islands was a U.S. Navy airplane carrier. She and the USS Remembrance were stationed in Bermuda during the early part of the Second Great War, in part to defend the islands from any attempts by the British to retake them. In this, they failed as HMS Ark Royal succeeded in luring the two ships away, enabling a joint Confederate-British task force to take the strategically important island.

Unlike the Remembrance, the Sandwich Islands was built from the keel up to be an airplane carrier. As such, she carried almost twice as many airplanes even though her displacement wasn't much greater.[1]
