Tokyo Rose

Tokyo Rose or Tokio Rose was a collective slang designation applied to multiple English-speaking female broadcasters of propaganda for Japan during World War II. The broadcasts were aimed at Allied troops in the Pacific Ocean, with the intent of lowering morale. Apocryphal stories have circulated that Tokyo Rose could be unnervingly accurate, correctly reporting on the positions of Allied units and even individual servicemen. The term "Axis Sally" was given to similar announcers who broadcast for Nazi Germany.

While on a troopship sailing towards Kyushu as part of Operation: Olympic, Jugs Perkins asked Sgt. Mike Sullivan if what Tokyo Rose was saying was true. Sullivan said that if Tokyo Rose said it, then it must be untrue and then asked him what in particular he was wondering about. Jugs replied that he had heard her say that the Japanese would spear them if they didn't shoot them. Sullivan reassured Jugs that they could shoot any spear bearers before they could reach them and that if the Japanese were depending on spears then that it meant guns were in short supply. Jugs thought about it and agreed it would be to their advantage.
