Tibet (/tɪˈbɛt/ (About this sound listen); Tibetan: བོད་, Wylie: bod, ZYPY: Poi, Lhasa dialect IPA: pʰøː˨˧˩; Chinese: 西藏; pinyin: Xīzàng /ɕi⁵⁵ t͡sɑŋ⁵¹/) is a historical region covering much of the Tibetan Plateau in Central Asia, located west of China and north of the Himalayas. It is the traditional homeland of the Tibetan people as well as some other ethnic groups such as Monpa, Qiang, and Lhoba peoples and is now also inhabited by considerable numbers of Han Chinese and Hui people.

After centuries of periods of independence interspersed with years of Chinese rule, Tibet was formally annexed to the People's Republic of China as a province in 1959. Its former head of state, Tenzin Gyatso aka Dalai Lama XIV, maintains a government-in-exile in India.

Earth's largest mountain, Mount Everest, is on the Tibet-Nepal border.

Tibet in State of Jefferson[]

When China invaded Tibet in 1959, many yeti were forced into exile.[1] The Yeti Lama made a trip to the U.S. state of Jefferson in 1979 to meet briefly with the state governor, Bill Williamson.[2]
