Thomas Adison was a Negro soldier in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He survived the Battle of Fort Pillow, although a bullet took off one eye and most of his nose. He was able to give testimony in Mound City, Illinois to members of the Joint Committee on the Conduct of the War, despite his wounds. Nevertheless, his doctor, Stewart Gordon was concerned about whether Adison would survive his wounds.
