The Communist Manifesto, published on 21 February 1848, is one of the world's most influential political treatises. Commissioned by the Communist League and written by communist theorists Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, it laid out the League's purposes and program. It presents an analytical approach to the class struggle (historical and present) and the problems of capitalism, but does not offer much of a prediction of communism's potential future forms.

The Communist Manifesto has been the bedrock document for most socialist and communist movements throughout the world. The concepts Marx and Engels laid out, particularly the concepts of class struggle that each man believed defined capitalism.

Literary comment[]

The Communist Manifesto may be referred to in passing in most Harry Turtledove timelines involving the Soviet Union and/or Communism. It is specifically relevant only on rare occasions.

The Communist Manifesto in The Gladiator[]

After the Soviet Union won the Cold War, every child in the world began learning The Communist Manifesto in primary school, and so were expected to know it by rote in adulthood.[1]
