Tanilis was a noble woman and sorceress near the Videssian town of Opsikion. After her husband Vledas died, she managed his estate on her own. She was the mother of Mavros and patron and lover of Krispos, who became Avtokrator of Videssos with no small help from her prophecies. After her son died, she joined Krispos in his campaign against Harvas Black-Robe. She destroyed Harvas (though not for good) and his black magic, but at the cost of her own life.
