Talsu was a tailor in the Jelgavan town of Skrunda.
After the Derlavaian War erupted Talsu served in the Jelgavan army as a common soldier. His unit was part of the desultory Jelgavan advance through the Bratanu Mountains, during which a combination of Algarvian resistance and the incompetence of Jelgava's noble officers left Talsu unenthusiastic about fighting the war.
When Algarvian dragons landed troops in the mountain passes and cut off Jelgava's army from its homeland, Talsu managed to escape back into Jelgava with a small group of his fellow soldiers. Thoroughly disgusted with their nobles' brutality and incompetence, the small band simply deserted and despite encountering several Algarvian soldiers Talsu and his comrades were left alone. Talsu made his way to his home town of Skrunda and resumed his civilian job as a tailor in his father Traku's shop.
