If Videssos is being republished in omnibus form, maybe I'll check it out. I did enjoy Krispos quite a lot when that was released as an omnibus. Turtle Fan (talk) 19:29, August 29, 2012 (UTC)

I actually went and ordered both from amazon. Both volumes combined are quite a bit cheaper than buying the individual paperbacks.
I guess I should order Kripos. I wish the omnibus for The Time of Troubles Cycle were still available. TR (talk) 19:45, August 29, 2012 (UTC)

Guess who picked up Volume One at the public library? ML4E (talk) 16:58, April 20, 2013 (UTC)

HT wrote us a nice letter for this occasion. Apparently the idea for Videssos came about as a Roman legion-fights-in-Middle-Earth fanfic! http://sf-fantasy.suvudu.com/2013/04/dear-readers-a-letter-from-harry-turtledove.html JudgeFisher (talk) 05:13, June 6, 2013 (UTC)

I remember reading much of this in Turtledove's essay "The Ring and I," from the collection in Meditations on Middle-Earth in honour of J.R.R. Tolkien. I think he may have cribbed parts of the essay for this latest article. ML4E (talk) 16:00, June 6, 2013 (UTC)

I'm about a third of the way through The Misplaced Legion portion. Digging it lots. TR (talk) 16:37, June 17, 2013 (UTC)

It was a good series and I'm glad I read it. I found the third book dragged a bit but the fourth picked up and gave a satisfactory ending to the series. ML4E (talk) 19:50, June 19, 2013 (UTC)

Mavrikios Gavras on the cover[]

So, I presume that Mavrikios Gavras is depicted on the cover, and that Thorisin Gavras is on volume 2. I'd like to place edited copies in the respective character templates. Any objection? TR (talk) 06:33, April 8, 2018 (UTC)

I always assumed the man on the first omnibus cover was Marcus Scaurus, but I guess it makes sense for him to be Mavrikios instead. FordPrefect42 14:42, April 8, 2018 (UTC)
If you look at the breastplate of the figure on Volume One, it looks something like the description of the sun symbol of Phos so its unlikely to be Marcus Scaurus. However, the figure on Volume One looks quite a bit younger than the one on Volume Two while Thorisin was the younger brother to Mavrikios and the latter was dead by the end of V1. That makes it unlikely he would be depicted on V2.
While writing this, I recalled a previous discussion and found it here: File talk:VidessosV1.jpg. It seems at the time, I thought it might depict Thorisin as a more reckless youngster and then an older and aged avtokrator from the responsibilities. That possibility still seems plausible and the objections to the younger figure being the older man stands. ML4E (talk) 18:13, April 8, 2018 (UTC)
I should have double checked the images. Ok, we'll keep the status quo. TR (talk) 18:33, April 8, 2018 (UTC)
