Finally, another Tor.com story.

It has been a while, hasn't it? Turtle Fan (talk) 08:07, May 12, 2016 (UTC)

Sounds basically AH-like (state of Jefferson in the Pacific Northwest). I'm also guessing, based on the "height and hair" references, that the "ethnic" minority the governor belongs to is Sasquatch. TR (talk) 23:58, May 11, 2016 (UTC)

I was thinking either Johannes Gutenberg (type) or Orson Welles (movie casting), since OW just got deleted here.JonathanMarkoff (talk) 23:59, May 11, 2016 (UTC)

We keep telling you it doesn't really work that way. Turtle Fan (talk) 08:07, May 12, 2016 (UTC)

So it's up[]

And the two stories over in that stealth collection from a couple weeks back are NOT the same story.  So we'll suddenly have a fairly well developed little timeline for our project.  TR (talk) 15:01, June 15, 2016 (UTC)

We also probably got as many new historical figures out of this story than we did out of the entirety of LO. TR (talk) 22:23, June 15, 2016 (UTC)
One member of a prominent US family, and one entry in a set of old OTL literary works are pretty good. Plus there's two neat little subarticles that can be added to two POTUS names already here. Maybe some of the referenced Ashland people are obscure historical figures, I don't know. The reference to Laurence Olivier is tantalizing; it might not be enough to elevate beyond lit ref, but it's in a fairly significant context in the story, kind of like the various movies that were mentioned in "Before the Beginning" as being better than the time-viewer videos.JonathanMarkoff (talk) 22:50, June 15, 2016 (UTC)
The governor HT name checked as having done more for his hometown than for Yreka was one of the real life proponents of Jefferson in OTL. Both the founder of the Shakespeare festival and his successor were also both real (obviously they were from Oregon rather than Jefferson). TR (talk) 23:01, June 15, 2016 (UTC)

Took me awhile to get around to reading it, but I'm glad I did. It wasn't terribly profound, but it did manage to be thought-provoking on several levels while at the same time offering some well-realized and thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere. I look forward to seeing more--provided it stays true to the spirit of this piece; the extenporanea of the other two still don't appeal to me much. But if these stories launch another Atlantis, I'd be pleased. Turtle Fan (talk) 03:21, July 4, 2016 (UTC)
