Turtledove

"The title alludes to another Lovecraft story, "The Colour Out of Space". On the surface, yes, but since it also alludes to The Shadow Out of Time, and is part of a collection inspired by that story, let's wait and see what it's about before we post links. TR (talk) 14:23, 18 March 2023 (UTC)

I've tended to conflate the two stories myself, and I always struggle to remember which of Lovecraft's stories I have or have not read. (I knock off one long one or several short ones every year around Halloween.) I read the summary on the article to which this one links and I read this novella just last fall. It hadn't occurred to me that it could be fruitful ground for an anthology, but now I can see where it would. Hopefully we'll get lots of fun stories about the other people whom the Yithians possessed whom Peaslee encountered back in their citadel. Turtle Fan (talk) 22:17, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
If you follow the links for Schweizter's summary, you'll see that this probably will not be the case. TR (talk) 23:19, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
Oh. Too bad. I'll check it out later. Turtle Fan (talk) 01:27, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

TPB[]

I've ordered a copy of the TPB of this book. According to Amazon and my card statement, it's getting ready to ship. PS publishing is a smallish company, so, we shall see.

I've switched to ebooks for the most part, but since there don't seem to be any plans to create an ebook, I'm just shelling out for the TPB. TR (talk) 07:03, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

No plans for an ebook? Boo!
Perhaps I'll do the same thing you're doing at some point. I have quite the backlog of reading material at the moment and I just don't consider this one all that urgent. Turtle Fan (talk) 14:14, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
My copy came today. HT's story does involve the Yith. TR (talk) 22:41, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Horror[]

It's not really a horror story. While it does incorporate elements of the two HPL works, they aren't to create a horror story. Much more of a conventional science fiction piece. TR (talk) 05:06, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Finished the story[]

It's short. (I'll read the rest of the book shortly.) HT synthesized TCooS and TSooT in a very clever way. However the whole story is predicated on a two-part twist. I know our policy is "spoil away", but given some of the instability in the publishing industry in general, and the fact that the publisher is a smaller one, I think I'm going to hold off on creating articles since this book hasn't been available all that long. There won't be many brand new articles, anyway. We'll just barely break the minimum for a "The Colour out of the Shadow Characters Category". (I suspect "The Hill of the Beast" will yield more variety.)

As as been the case with the HPL pastiches, we'll link quite a bit to the HPL wiki. A couple of key HPL characters are mentioned posthumously in the story several times, but those mentions aren't substantial enough to justify articles. TR (talk) 21:18, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
