The book says Bushell mentally classified Shikalimo as a nobleman so I will classify Otetiani as a monarch. Its not clear from the book if he ruled just the Iroquois or also the whites in The Six Nations. There is no indication of a parallel English government though so I am inclined to the latter. Should I change his (and others) nationality to "Iroquios" as a sub-cat of "Americans"? ML4E 03:34, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- But the Iroquois nationality is not a subcat of Americans. Historically there's been a certain amount of overlap, with Iroquois who held US citizenship, and I suppose there still are today though I'm anything but an authority on the matter. If he belonged to the Iroquois Confederacy, he was an Iroquois, and if he held US citizenship he was an American (or NAU citizenship--Is that how we've been doing it? I haven't noticed.) But Iroquois is not a subdivision of American citizenship just because they eventually lost their territory to the US (or in this case NAU, though I know they maintained some sort of limited tribal sovereignty thereunder). On reflection, you are correct in that "Iroquois" shouldn't be a sub-cat of Americans". However, I think a cat of that name (perhaps as a sub-cat of "National Origin") would still be useful since they aren't quite like other "Americans" in T2G. ML4E 21:13, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- If there are enough to support a category, I agree that it would be a worthwhile addition to Category:Characters by Nationality. Turtle Fan 00:50, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- EDIT: Sorry, forgot how to link to a category there for a minute. Turtle Fan 00:51, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
There are about a half dozen named in T2G (including a historical) so I'll do that when I get a chance. That is the category I had in mind, yes. ML4E 21:18, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
