Turtledove

History refers to this fellow as "Philippikos Bardanes". Turtledove, being a Byzantianist (if that's a word), refers to him as "Bardanes Philippikos".

I don't think we should leave him as "Bardanes" since he appears to have pointedly reigned under Philippikos. TR (talk) 18:07, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

I'd support putting Philipikos first. We do have precedent for overlooking some of HT's quirkier naming conventions when these differ with conventional wisdom. Turtle Fan (talk) 19:02, October 22, 2012 (UTC)
He went around insisting on being called Philippikos; Justinian, Myakes and everyone else called him Bardanes. Not sure if Myakes continued do to so out of spite; he didn't like the Armenian. Jelay14 (talk) 21:44, October 22, 2012 (UTC)
