Maine For Blaine in 1884[]

Didn't I hear somewhere on this wiki that Maine was one of the few states that voted for James G. Blaine during the 1884 Presidential Election? I don't know what article said so, but it's kinda a mystery to me, especally when Northern Maine was annexed into New Brunswick following the Second Mexican War. --75.68.122.13 16:10, July 28, 2016 (UTC)Jacob Chesley the Alternate Historian

The only thing HT reveals about the 1884 election is that Blaine lost it. If an article says that he carried Maine, it needs to be edited. TR (talk) 16:12, July 28, 2016 (UTC)
Is there even textual confirmation that Blaine's own party renominated him in 1884? I find it conceivable that they might dump him altogether.JonathanMarkoff (talk) 18:09, July 28, 2016 (UTC)
I confess off the top of my head I'm not 100% certain. We know they kept Lincoln in 1864, so they could have gone either way in 1884, I suppose. TR (talk) 18:41, July 28, 2016 (UTC)
They might have gone with him to keep their powder dry in '88 by running an already-spent candidate in a hopeless year. Then again, they might have run a left-winger (not that any really come to mind) to try to stop the bleeding of members going over to the Reds. Whatever they did, it didn't work.
