I don't think we can say he was killed in action in WW/Col. He was shot to death, but it seems more likely that a bunch of soldiers ran in and shot him, not that there was a running gun battle. If there had been such a fight, I'd think that Beria would have bailed. TR (talk) 21:22, February 13, 2018 (UTC)

It was a free-for-all during his attempted coup, when anything goes and often does happen. There was probably a lot of action. He was likely resisting arrest like John Wilkes Booth was when he was killed.JonathanMarkoff (talk) 21:29, February 13, 2018 (UTC)
If he was killed resisting arrest, that's killed while resisting arrest, not killed in action. KIA really is meant to apply to people killed on the battlefield. TR (talk) 21:43, February 13, 2018 (UTC)
I find Jonathan's scenario unlikely. I haven't read WW but what the articles show is that Zhukov led Red Army Forces in to arrest Beria and he was killed. Beria likely had some bodyguards but they stood no chance against an Army unit. If it had degenerated into a civil war like in TWTCE (e.g. Hitler survives the bomb blast and is killed resisting the Committee later) then yes but this is stretching the definition too far.
