How much to Kill a Krolp[]

What does it mean that it would take a lot of resources to kill a single Krolp? Does this mean someone with a sword couldn't just chop its head off to kill him/her or blow the aliens brain out with a gun? I've read the story and know how much resources it takes, but I was just interested. --75.68.122.13 19:32, February 9, 2015 (UTC)Jacob Chesley the Alternate Historian

I suspect an individual unarmed Krolp without any sort of body armor is actually quite susceptible to conventional weapons. The issue is that no Krolp seems to be completely unharmed or without defensive weaponry (such as body armor) in battle. TR (talk) 20:03, February 9, 2015 (UTC)
If the photo is correct--which is not necessarily a safe assumption, though perhaps it's safer with the Tor.com shorts than elsewhere--I wouldn't want to take on even an unarmed Krolp. Certainly not with a sword: They look thick-skinned enough to survive a slash with the thrust that a merely human swordsman could generate, and I'm not sure we could get close enough to them either. As for shooting them, a large-caliber round might go through, but I suspect they could shrug off an ordinary handgun in much the same way that a large animal like a rhino or a moose could.
They'd have their ranges of tolerance, like any organism, and it might be possible to lure them into an area that's too cold or where the air is too thin, or something like that, and spring a trap on them. But that too would take a lot of resources, particularly if their ranges of tolerance are similar to ours (and given that they colonized Earth to begin with, I wouldn't bet on them being too drastically different).
