Her back story seems to be an allusion to Brian Williams, especially her thoughts that because she was a woman, she was fired but if she had been a man, she would have been demoted but kept on. Nesbitt also has some oblique references to what seems to be sexual misconduct that, in real life, led to the Me Too movement. And the first scene of the two is on the Gabriela and Brandon set doing Jerry Springer with a cross-dressing, meth-dealing armed robber and his three girlfriends who hadn't known about each other.
