Ooh! Can we start telling cheese-eating surrender monkey jokes? Turtle Fan 05:23, April 14, 2011 (UTC)

Here's a good one. French Military Defeats Mr Nelg.

That's the classic. I don't know if it still works but back in the day if you Googled "French Military Victories" and hit "I'm Feeling Lucky" you'd get a page skinned to what Google gives you when it gets no results that took you there. Turtle Fan 14:45, April 14, 2011 (UTC)
I find Sarkozy's almost singlehandly involving the UN and NATO in Libya renders the "French surrender" meme passé. (Ok, that's an exaggeration--Cameron played his role, too.) TR 19:14, April 14, 2011 (UTC)
Maybe. It's still good for a laugh. Turtle Fan 20:11, April 14, 2011 (UTC)

MwIH Section[]

I don't like it. But I'm hesitant to remove it altogether as I feel like it's probably got one or two kernels of usefulness in there somewhere. Let's all give it a once-over before I start pruning in search of them. Turtle Fan (talk) 04:29, May 26, 2019 (UTC)

It wants formatting. In terms of of content, we only need a very few sentences, honestly. TR (talk)
That was my thought as well. I was about to turn in, but I'll try to play with it tomorrow. Turtle Fan (talk) 06:58, May 26, 2019 (UTC)
Most of it is stuff that happened in OTL, or general statements about the Allied powers in ATL. There are maybe three relevant sentences about the French Army buried in it deeply.Matthew Babe Stevenson (talk) 08:27, May 26, 2019 (UTC)
The first paragraph is stuff that happened pre-POD and probably can be reduced to one sentence. The second is mostly about attacks on the U.S. and the USSR. Only the last two sentences are relevant along with the final, one sentence paragraph. I would say one sentence summary of the pre-VE French Army, one sentence on GFF attacks and then the last three existing sentences all in one paragraph. I'll leave it for Turtle Fan to do the pruning since I have only skimmed Iron Heart in the past. ML4E (talk) 18:33, May 26, 2019 (UTC)
I've got it down to one mid-size paragraph. Even that feels meatier than it should, but I didn't want to maul the original work too badly, or leave a lot of stray comments devoid of context (even though that's only going to be an issue in the extremely unlikely event that this is the only MwIH article someone reads).
I also feel we should perhaps drop it farther down in the article. No one who wants to know what the French Army did in Turtledove's work will want to read about MwIH first. Turtle Fan (talk) 22:31, May 26, 2019 (UTC)
