Turtledove

Do we really need this article? It would be nice to have this particular feature here, but I can't think of any HT story where we could say anything more than "the English Channel makes it difficult to invade England from France" or any other obvious statement.JonathanMarkoff (talk) 21:46, August 31, 2017 (UTC)

Idono. It was a red-link for the longest time so we thought the article should be made. Maybe, maybe not. ML4E (talk) 16:14, September 1, 2017 (UTC)
I think I'm with Jonathan. This seems like a pretty meaningless article.
I wonder if, to prevent red links to geographical features that come up often but never in a major way, we might redirect to some sort of geographical primer article? It could be useful, as there are certainly plenty of readers who might not be completely up on the geography of a region they've never lived in. Turtle Fan (talk) 00:04, September 4, 2017 (UTC)
I like that idea. TR (talk) 01:05, September 4, 2017 (UTC)

Given the Lit. Comm. MBS added today, and looking over the entries, only the AoB entry seems germane. ML4E (talk) 19:07, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Indeed, and even that is only good for one sentence. I'm really struggling to come up with a reason to justify this article. But I don't think I can call for its deletion, either, because the Channel has had such a drastic effect on the history of military strategy and geopolitics, which on a Turtledove wiki gives it a separate kind of relevance. This could be a pickle. Turtle Fan (talk) 19:26, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
I think that's why we've let it be for so long. It is an important geographical feature in OTL, and is pretty important to most of HT's writing in the abstract. It isn't "story specific", that is, no story has ever incorporated the Channel as a key plot point, but it's something characters will emphasize, usually in the context of "aside from some really big exceptions, the Channel has kept out invaders." Maybe we could rewrite it to say essentially that, with no story-specific subsections? Turtle Fan (talk) 15:48, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
That would be similar to Sun. It does seem that this article is useless to any story, but too important to delete wholesale. The article should list which timelines call it the Sleeve because there is no concept of English.Matthew Babe Stevenson (talk) 19:44, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
