I wonder why the Soviets even wanted to nuke Bangor in the first place? Don't get me wrong, I know the US and the Russians were fighting in World War III, but is there anything in the small Maine city in the 1950s worth nuking to Kingdom Come? According to the 1950 census of Bangor, the small city only had about 31,558 people living there. Maybe is was just for the Russians to prove a point or there was industry the Russians didn't want being used against them by the US or maybe one of the Russian bombers missed their target in Newfoundland and hit Bangor by mistake. --JCC the Alternate Historian (talk) 12:20, April 6, 2018 (UTC)

It was then, as it is now, an important port for shipping and traveling, and was probably important to the supply lines between the US and Western Europe. It was also the only East Coast city the Soviets could hit at that point. TR (talk) 13:47, April 6, 2018 (UTC)
