And Atlantis will rise from the sea, and Tibetan people will live in caves beneath England, and there will be dinosaurs on a spaceship!Matthew Babe Stevenson (talk) 20:02, August 24, 2020 (UTC)

The Race almost qualifies. Turtle Fan (talk) 04:40, August 25, 2020 (UTC)
Imagine if the Conquest Fleet had come in during the middle of A&O. They might have said "These Tosevites are crazy!" and sped back to Tau Ceti 2.Matthew Babe Stevenson (talk) 05:53, August 25, 2020 (UTC)
For more than one reason: We have currently exceeded their technology level with everything except starships (which, yeah).
I never thought of this before, but if someone were to read Worldwar for the first time today, the Race's tech would feel downright quaint. Might possibly take a reader out of the story. Turtle Fan (talk) 16:59, August 25, 2020 (UTC)
That is fair, though there enough things that are still out of reach (hydrogen fuel springs to mind) that a reader could still find them to be pretty advanced. Plus, the Race's conservative approach to advancement is front and center. TR (talk) 18:25, August 25, 2020 (UTC)
Under the same principle, HG Wells' War of the Worlds Martians conquered a large part of Europe using technology that was exceeded by humans before WWII began, except the necessary mechanism of interplanetary travel.Matthew Babe Stevenson (talk) 19:58, August 25, 2020 (UTC)

Yes, this image is unrelated to anything Turtledove wrote, at least in the most direct sense, but it sure feels good to get this blindingly obvious statement off my chest.Matthew Babe Stevenson (talk) 02:42, October 14, 2020 (UTC)

It's true, very true. For the life of me I can't fathom how holy rollers can possibly be taken in by such an unrepentant sinner. Turtle Fan (talk) 15:39, October 15, 2020 (UTC)
