I initially saw this as a brief lit ref, but then realized that he is sufficiently contemporary to the action, and apparently knew both Pepys and Sandwich in OTL. Since he is noted by Pepys and Sandwich as a poet, this may suggest that the turbulence of the 1650s didn't happen in this timeline, and he had more time to focus on poetry instead.Matthew Babe Stevenson (talk) 08:56, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Having reread the section in ASTB, I don't think it warrants even a Lit, Ref., never mind this bloated article. It is a clever line that encapsulates the notion of "Deep Time" behind modern geology and evolution, even though the original poem has nothing to do with that. The speculation by MBS above is the same irrelevant justification he attempted for Wellington boots and Heinz behind the ketchup. And the relevency to the story where his activities are not discussed at all and only a line of his poem is quoted is? He is noted as a poet because Sandwich quotes a line of his poety. Nothing more is implied. ML4E (talk) 15:34, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
