"Speaker to Emos" is a short story by Harry Turtledove, published in the July/August issue of Asimov's Science Fiction on June 18, 2019. It is a broad alternate history set in world where people with Asperger Syndrome are the "default" setting for a human being, whereas people without Asperger's have von Mellenthin's Syndrome, and are "abnormal" emos.[1]
The story focuses on emo counselor Carol Nugent and her session with fellow emo Justin Becker. As such, there isn't a traditional conflict or plot progression, but the story does invite the non-Asperger reader to empathize with those who have Asperger's via the reversal.
