Spartacus was a Negro guerrilla leader in Georgia. He served in the Confederate Army during the Great War. One of his great successes came in 1943, when he led a second raid on the small town of Plains, Georgia. When a regiment of Mexican troops arrived in Plains, Spartacus arranged to ambush them. His guerrillas, augmented by US Major Jonathan Moss and Captain Nick Cantarella, and with a machine gun positioned to fire on the Mexicans' flank, managed to rout them.
Spartacus' group joined with US troops in late 1943. Moss and Cantarella were able to get back behind their own lines.
