The Slovak People's Party was a Slovak right-wing party with strong Catholic and nationalist orientation. It existed between 1913 and 1945 in Slovakia.
The party arose at a time when Slovakia was still part of Austria-Hungary, then it was one of the parties of Czechoslovakia. In the mid-1920s it began identifying with fascism, inspired by Benito Mussolini's party in Italy.
It became the dominant party of World War II Slovakia, with the blessing of Germany.
Party chairmen were the Slovak priests Andrej Hlinka (1913-1938) and then Jozef Tiso (1938-1945).
Slovak People's Party in The War That Came Early[]
The Slovak People's Party ascended to power with the aid of Germany after Germany declared war on Czechoslovakia in 1938. The SPP did much to undermine the Czech resistance, and were rewarded with a Slovak state.
