The Russian Civil War (1917-1923) was a multi-sided conflict that took place within the borders of the former Russian Empire following the collapse of the Russian provisional government and the Bolshevik takeover of Petrograd (formerly St. Petersburg), which they soon renamed Leningrad.

The main hostilities took place between Bolshevik Red Army, and loosely-allied anti-Bolshevik forces, known as the White Army.

The Red Army emerged victorious in 1923. The Communist Party assumed complete control of the country and began building a socialist state.

Russian Civil War in "Liberating Alaska"[]

While the Soviet Union survived the Entente intervention into the Russian Civil War, Vladimir Lenin was forced to cede a number of Russian territories. In some instances, territory went to one of the invading countries. For example, as U.S. Marines withdrew from Siberia, they were able to seize Russia's North American province, Alaska.[1]

Veterans of the U.S. invasion of Siberia would later help liberate Siknazuak, Alaska in June 1929 after Joseph Stalin sent troops to take the city.[2]

Russian Civil War in Southern Victory[]

The Russian Civil War (1917 - c. 1926) was a decade-long internal conflict that was fought between "Red" Socialists and Tsarists in support of Nicholas II. It spun off from the Russian Revolution that began during the Great War and left much of the country a wasteland. In the end, the Tsarists won and kept Nicholas II on the throne.[3]
