The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) is the air force branch of the Australian Defence Force. The RAAF was formed in March 1921. It continues the traditions of the Australian Flying Corps (AFC), which was formed on 22 October 1912. The RAAF has taken part in many of the 20th century's major conflicts.

Royal Australian Air Force in Days of Infamy[]

The RAAF was unprepared for war in the Pacific when Japan entered World War II. Fitted with aircraft that were no match against the Zero, the RAAF was beaten in the skies over Malaya, the Dutch East Indies, New Guinea, and even their own home. Cut off from the US, the RAAF was forced to make their own stop-gap fighter.
