Redding, officially the City of Redding, is the county seat of Shasta County, California, in the northern part of the state. It lies along the Sacramento River, which provided transportation and power in its early years. Interstate 5 bisects the entire city from the south to north before it approaches Shasta Lake, located about 15 miles (24 km) north of downtown. Redding has a population of 89,861 and is the largest city in the Shasta Cascade region, and it is the fourth-largest city in the Sacramento Valley, behind Sacramento, Elk Grove, and Roseville.

Redding in The Hot War[]

Redding was the location of the closest hospital to the town of Weed. It was still an eighty mile drive, and Weed didn't have an ambulance service, either,[1] until May 1952, when the lumber companies that effectively ran Weed bowed to popular pressure and collectively purchased one.[2]

Redding was also one of the few towns with a radio station near Weed.[3]

Redding in The House of Daniel[]

In July 1934, Redding was a small town. However, its semipro baseball team, the Tigers, were well know along the West Coast. The town invested in Tigers Park, insuring it was well maintained.[4]

The House of Daniel played the Tigers on July 30, beating them 7-5.[5]

Redding in State of Jefferson[]

The population of Redding, along with the rest of the State of Jefferson, eagerly awaited the Yeti Lama's visit to their state in 1979. An important Redding newspaper sent a reporter to meet the holy man at the Eureka docks.[6]
