Rantan Taggah was talonmaster of the Clan of the Claw. As the Ice Age was ending, Taggah realized that the Clan, which included many not-yet-naturalized members who were survivors of the floods, would have to travel to the northern continent to survive. To do this, they would have to circumvent the New Water, a journey which involved passing through the lands of the fearsome Liskash.
Rantan Taggah in other authors' works[]
Rantan Taggah is referenced throughout the Clan of the Claw series. These references reveal that he is supreme military commander over all the disparate branches of the Clan of the Claw. He does not play a substantial role in any non-Harry Turtledove story. Taggah makes a non-speaking cameo appearance in “A Clan’s Foundation” by S.M. Stirling in By Tooth and Claw: Clan of the Claw, volume two.
Literary comment[]
Rantan Taggah is named after Rum Tum Tugger, a prominent character in Cats: The Musical.
