Rachel Friedman (b. 1935) was the daughter of Berel Friedman of Puck. When a mysterious guest came to the door during Chanukah in 1939, Berel offered the stranger all he could eat. Rachel feared that the stranger would eat so much that there would be no food left for anyone else.[1]
The guest turned out to be "Emes," a golem who had come to evacuate Rachel's and two other families from imminent danger. After running through a gauntlet of German soldiers, the three families commandeered a fishing boat to escape across the Baltic Sea to Sweden.[2] Rachel was a skilled dreidel player, and scored several gimels during the voyage. Berel said that if she kept on like that, she would own the boat soon.[3]
