Portsmouth in A Different Flesh[]
Portsmouth was the capital and largest city of Virginia Commonwealth, one of the Federated Commonwealths of America. It had been Virginia's capital since English colonial days.[1] In 1805, the landmark Jeremiah Gillen decision was reached in the Portsmouth courthouse.[2]
Portsmouth in Southern Victory[]
In 1944, Portsmouth, Virginia became the new seat of the Confederate government when Petersburg, the previous temporary location, was threatened after Richmond fell to the United States Army. Communications Director Saul Goldman managed to patch together a wireless network which allowed President Jake Featherston to continue to broadcast defiance at the United States. President Featherston along with Goldman witnessed the destruction of Newport News by a U.S. superbomb from here, forcing them to flee further south.[3]
