Ponca City in The House of Daniel[]

Mich Carstairs was residing in Ponca City in May 1934. Her brother, Charlie owed a debt to Big Stu Kesselring, the "crime boss" of Enid. Kesserling decided to squeeze Charlie Carstairs by going after his family. A wizard located Mich, but Big Stu assumed she was Charlie's brother "Mitch" and not his sister. Kesselring hired Jack Spivey to go to Ponca City and beat up "Mitch".[1] As Spivey played center with the Enid Eagles semi-pro team, and they were going to play the Ponca City Greasemen in a few days, Spivey agreed when the price was right.[2]

However, when Spivey found Michelle Carstairs and not Mitchell Carstairs, he changed his mind, and urged her to leave Ponca City. He stayed to play with his team against the Greasemen.[3] After the Eagles won next day's game,[4] Spivey decided to stay. The day after, he learned that the House of Daniel barnstorming team was playing against the Greasemen that afternoon. Spivey successfully tried out for the House of Daniel after they beat the Greasemen.[5]
