Pmurt was a member of the Great Race of Yith. He was unusual in that he was able to conceive of dishonesty, and even created the concept of fraud. He also liked to go into the buildings previously inhabited by the Old Ones. For his crimes, a judge named Sirica sentenced Pmurt's spirit to be sent hundreds of millions of years into the future and into the body and brain of a human. A guard named Relleum carried out the sentence.[1]
Pmurt awoke in the body of a man named Donald. Having learned English from the writings of Nathaniel Wingate Peaslee, Pmurt was able to communicate with Donald's wife.[2] She "reminded" Pmurt (who began to think of himself as "Donald") that they were going to Arkham, Massachusetts to officially open one of Donald's new hotels. After voiding and then having breakfast, Pmurt reviewed The New York Post, and learned that he'd arrived almost one hundred years after Peaslee's spirit had been taken into the past. He also learned that Donald was a hotel magnate, and that he was opening a new hotel by Arkham Reservoir.[3] He learned that people believed the water in the reservoir was "accursed", and so there would be protestors at the opening.[4] On the flight to Arkham, Pmurt was impressed with how commonplace air travel had become since Peaslee's day.[5]
Prior to the official opening, Pmurt met with Louise Pierce, a professor of environmental science at Miskatonic University, and a descendant of Ammi Pierce. Ammi Pierce had barely survived the alien contact at the Gardner farm in 1882. Louise Pierce shared this story with Pmurt/Donald, and pleaded with him not use the water for his hotel. She pointed out that Arkham had higher levels of mental health issues and birth defects, and confirmed that most people drank bottled water from out of state.[6] Pmurt dismissed her concerns as "fake news" (a phrase he remembered from the Post), pointing out that experts had confirmed the water was safe. To prove the point, he drank water from the reservoir in front of her.[7] She expressed her concerns again, but took her leave when she realized he wasn't going to listen.[8]
Pmurt made a speech later that day to officially open the hotel. He also pointedly drank more of the reservoir water.[9] After the reception and dinner, Pmurt and his wife went to their room and turned in for the night.[10] The colour, which was indeed in the water, went to work on Pmurt in his sleep. He had extraordinarily colorful and grandiose dreams. Had his brain been a human one, it probably would not have had the same impact. The next morning, he turned to his "wife", Melania, and announced that he was going to run for president, and that he was going to win.[11]
