The Pierre L.D. was a decrepit French freighter that joined a convoy between Canada and France in May, 1940. Initially, Amelia Earhart, Red Tobin, Andrew Mamedoff, and Vernon Keough planned to board the Guingamp, another freighter. When the skipper revealed he only had room for two, Earhart and Tobin boarded the Pierre L.D. instead.[1]
