*While Krispos was Phostis' legal father and most probably his biological one as well, there is a slim possibility that Phostis was sired by Dara's first husband Anthimos III.

Phostis was the name given to the Avtokrator Krispos' first-born son and heir to the Videssian throne. He was the older brother to Evripos and Katakolon.

The boy was named for Krispos' father. Krispos had doubts about who the boy's biological father was, as Dara the empress and mother became pregnant with the child while her first husband, Anthimos III, was still alive. Phostis was named Krispos' co-avtokrator while still an infant.

Phostis had matured into a young man by the time the Thanasioi revolt had broken out. Disillusioned with the inevitability of his ruling the empire as well as his frequent arguments with his father, Phostis was also bothered by the inherent hypocrisy in the lives of the ruling classes and the clergy; this led him to follow the preachings of Thanasioi preacher Digenis. When Phostis went on campaign with his father and brothers, he was captured by Thanasioi agents and taken to their stronghold as a hostage and as a potential recruit to their cause. While being held in the western part of the empire, Phostis discovered that even puritans can be hypocrites, bothering him further.

Ultimately, his relationship with the rebel leader's daughter, Olyvria, won Phostis his freedom, and the two escaped back to the capital, and then to Krispos' campaign. The two were married in front of the main rebel stronghold, which then capitulated soon after witnessing the ceremony.
