Petrozavodsk in The Hot War[]

Although a medium-sized town, Petrozavodsk became strategically important after most of the Soviet Union's major cities were destroyed by the United States during World War III.[1]

In May, 1952, the S-71 carrying Boris Gribkov and his crew arrived at Kem, where they then took a train to Petrozavodsk.[2]

In June, 1952, the United States destroyed Petrozavodsk with an atomic bomb as part of Operation Long Reach--the successful plan to kill Joseph Stalin. Petrozavodsk was a diversion; the real target was Omsk, where Stalin was hold-up.[3]
