Peter I (Serbian Cyrillic: Петар I Карађорђевић, romanized: Petar I Кarađorđević; 11 July [O.S. 29 June] 1844 – 16 August 1921) reigned as the last king of Serbia (1903–1918) and as the first king of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (1918–1921) (the forerunner of kingdom of Yugoslavia). Since he was the king of Serbia during a period of great Serbian military success, he was remembered by the Serbian people as King Peter the Liberator, and also as Old King.

Peter I in "Last Flight of the Swan of the East[]

In the aftermath of the assassinations of Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, King Peter's government was pressured by the government of Austria-Hungary to make several concessions upon threat of war. The Serbians accepted five demands, but refused to allow Austrian investigators to come to Serbia to help the investigation.[1] War came in short order; Franz Joseph's gunners and leviathans attacked Belgrade, though Peter's cannoneers shot two Austrian leviathans out of the sky.[2]
