Pabaiskas is a small town in Ukmergė district of Vilnius County, Lithuania, 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) south-west of Ukmerge, with 249 inhabitants. The Battle of Vilkmergė took place here in 1435, when Sigismund Kestutaitis defeated Švitrigaila and his Livonian Order allies. Pabaiskas was built afterwards to commemorate the battle.

Pabaiskas in The Hot War[]

During the Lithuanian uprising against the Soviet Union that began at the end of World War III, cities and towns like Pabaiskas were secured quickly by the Red Army. However, the countryside belong to the bandits, and travel outside Pabaiskas (or any town) was dangerous. In October, 1952, a Soviet truck convoy carrying supplies from Vilnius to Ukmerge came to grief near Pabaiskas.[1]
