"Nothing in the Nighttime" is a science fiction short story written by Harry Turtledove. It was originally published in Analog Magazine in March, 1989 and later incorporated into Earthgrip as the section entitled "The Atheters".
The story is of a trading mission to an alien planet by Jennifer Logan, a student of "Middle English" literature of the 19th and 20th centuries. The story is little more than an extended "shaggy dog" story with an atrocious pun ending.
