New Eborac, also known as "New Eborac City", was the largest city in New Eborac Province and the largest city in Detina. It was an important center for commerce and culture in the south. Needless to say, the northern view of the great city was not very favorable.
Corporal Rollant lived in New Eborac for ten years after his escape from serfdom on Ormerod's estate in Palmetto Province. Despite this, he unconsciously still thought from the perspective of a serf in Palmetto, and though he had lived amongst dark-haired Detinans for years he still thought of himself as a blond first, Detinan second.
Literary Comment[]
New Eborac City is based upon New York City. Eboracum was a town in Rome's Britannia province that later became the city of York, England. This city became the seat of power for the Dukes of York, one of whom was the sponsor and namesake of New York Colony and its eponymous City.
