The Nation of Islam is an African-American religious movement founded in Detroit, Michigan by Wallace D. Fard Muhammad in July 1930 to improve the spiritual, mental, social, and economic condition of African-Americans in the United States of America. It probably reached its greatest zenith under the leadership of Elijah Muhammad through the 1950s and 1960s, but saw some splintering after his death. At present NOI is lead by Louis Farrakhan. The organization seeks racial separation and espouses black genetic superiority.
Nation of Islam in "He Woke in Darkness"
In the recurring nightmare that plagued Cecil Price, black members of the Nation of Islam actively worked with southern whites to end the opporession of whites in places like Mississippi. Two such Muslims, Muhammad Shabazz and Tariq Abdul-Rashid were with Price (an oppressed white in his nightmare) in 1964, and murdered by angry black racists.
