Mule

The Mule, also known as the "Asskicker", was a dive bomber flown by the Confederate States during the Second Great War. They were widely considered one of the best dive bombers in the world at the time of their introduction. Mules served as "airborne artillery", bombing specific targets that conventional artillery and armor could not reach by diving down at an almost vertical angle, releasing its 500 pound bomb, and pulling up at the last moment.

Its gull wing structure made it easy to identify for U.S. forces. It made a terrifying whine as it dived to attack targets due to wind-powered sirens built into their fixed landing gear, and was effective during Operation Blackbeard and the invasion of Ohio.[1] However, their slow speed and limited maneuverability made them easy targets for enemy fighters and therefore required them to have a fighter escort in areas where the Confederacy did not have air superiority.[2]
