Mount Vesuvius is a stratovolcano in the Gulf of Naples, Italy, about 9 km (5.6 mi) east of Naples and a short distance from the shore. It is part of the Campanian arc. It is best known for its eruption in AD 79 that led to the burying and destruction of the Roman cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum and several other settlements. It has erupted many times since then, the most recent eruption being in 1944 amidst World War II. As of 2021, that incident is also the most recent volcanic eruption anywhere on the mainland of Europe.

Andromeda tracked Victoria and the Gorgons to Mount Vesuvius for their confrontation. She almost wished the volcano would erupt and save her the trouble.
