Montreal is the second-largest city in Canada and the largest city in the province of Quebec. Originally called Ville-Marie ('City of Mary'), the city takes its present name from Mont-Royal, the triple-peaked hill located in the heart of the city, whose name was also initially given to the island on which the city is located.
Montreal in Or Even Eagle Flew[]
Several Americans made their way to Montreal in order to join the Allies against Germany. Amelia Earhart was among these volunteers in May, 1940. She stayed at the Mount Royal Hotel.[1]
Montreal in Southern Victory[]
Montreal's size and location made it a target of U.S. forces during the Great War. It suffered bombardment throughout the first year, and drives and attacks for the duration of the war, until the U.S. could proclaim the independent Republic of Quebec. If war propaganda had been correct, Montreal fell several dozen times over during the war.
Montreal in Worldwar[]
Montreal was the point of entry for David Goldfarb and his family when they immigrated to Canada in 1964. Unfortunately, Goldfarb's previous arrest for ginger-smuggling in France in 1963 meant that he and he family were briefly detained and transferred to Ottawa.
