The Mojave Desert occupies a significant portion of southeastern California and smaller parts of central California, southern Nevada, southwestern Utah and northwestern Arizona, in the United States.
The Mojave is a desert of temperature extremes. Winter months bring temperatures dipping to below 20°F (-7°C) on valley floors, and below 0°F (-18°C) at higher elevations. Storms moving from the Pacific Northwest can bring rain and snow across the region.
Summer weather is dominated by heat — temperatures on valley floors can soar above 120°F (49°C) and above 130°F (54°C) at the lowest elevations.
Mojave Desert in Curious Notions[]
In the alternate designated as 3477 by Crosstime Traffic, the Mojave Desert was used by the Feldgendarmerie of the German Empire as one of several penal colonies. The Mojave fitted the Feldgendarmerie's two basic criteria for locating such colonies - an inhospitable climate and a remote location.

The airship Upper California Limited passed over the Mojave Desert as part of its route. Passangers felt that watching the desert landscape below increased the pleasure of the excellent food served in the ship's dining room.
