Milan Nedić (Милан Недић; 2 September 1878 – 4 February 1946) was a Serbian (later Yugoslavian) general and politician, who served as the Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Yugoslav Army and Minister of War in the Royal Yugoslav Government. During World War II, he collaborated with the Germans and served as the Prime Minister of a puppet government in the German occupied territory of Serbia.
After the war, Yugoslav communist authorities imprisoned him. In 1946, they reported that he had committed suicide by jumping out of a window.
Milan Nedic in The Man With the Iron Heart[]
During World War II, Milan Nedic's militia helped to enforce German control of Serbia, harrying the Titoist resistance. At the end of the war, Tito's new regime shot or imprisoned large numbers of Nedic's men.[1]
German Freedom Front Reichsprotektor Reinhard Heydrich nostalgically remembered Nedic's service to the Reich. Ironically finding himself in a role analogous to Tito's men, Heydrich gleefully looked forward to the day when he would take a massively greater revenge on the defeated Germans who cozied up to the Americans.[2]
