The Meuse River is a major European river, rising in France and flowing through Belgium and the Netherlands before draining into the North Sea. It has a total length of 925 km (575 miles).

At the Battle of Verdun in March 1916, the events prophesied in the Book of Revelation came to pass. A large mountain of fire erupted in the sky and fell into the Meuse River. Soldiers Pierre Barres and Jacques Fonsagrive thought that a German plane had exploded and crashed into the river.
