"Mebodes' Fly" is a fantasy short story by Harry Turtledove, first published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction July, 1992. It was reprinted in several editions of The Mammoth Book of Comic Fantasy, edited by Mike Ashley, Carroll & Graf beginning in 1998. It is the second Clever Rolf story.

Clever Rolf lives with Viviane, the damsel he rescued in "Blue Fox and Werewolf". However, he is still a tomcat with the whores of a local jollyhouse. Rolf's archnemesis, the evil wizard Mebodes, hunts him down and places an elaborate curse on him, involving all forms of insect life. Rolf seeks aid from Mebodes' rival wizard Rigord, and lives up to his epithet in the way he outsmarts both wizards.

Connections to other works[]

Rigord is said to be from Iveria. This fantasy nation-state was the chief setting of "Honeymouth", suggesting that this story may be set in the same universe as the Rolf Stories.
